Methanol has been produced and used safely in the chemical industry for decades and has more than a decade of operational experience as a marine fuel. Over time, this has led to the development of established safety standards, handling guidelines, and regulatory frameworks that support its safe use worldwide.

At MI, we place safety at the core of our work. Together with our members, we promote best practices and support the consistent application of high safety standards across the global methanol industry.

This commitment to safety spans every stage of the lifecycle, from production and storage to transport, use, and disposal. Industry guidelines and protocols are designed to ensure methanol is handled responsibly and securely in a wide range of applications.

In addition to operational safety, we work with partners to raise awareness of public health risks, including methanol poisoning linked to illicit alcohol. Our resources include emergency response guidance and training materials to support both industry professionals, and communities.
